Importance of Education to End Poverty

"A single act of kindness can transform someone's world."
Breaking the chains of modern slavery
At Bright Futures Initiative, we fight every form of modern slavery by shining a light on the problem, pressing for systemic change, and equipping people to protect themselves. Across Indonesia, we partner with vulnerable communities to build the skills that break the cycle of exploitation—focusing on communication, critical thinking, and leadership. By nurturing resilience and self-reliance, we turn education into freedom and opportunity.

Modern slavery hides in plain sight
Understanding Modern Slavery in Indonesia
Modern slavery strips people of freedom through force, fraud, or coercion—hidden behind seemingly “normal” jobs, marriages, or debts. It shows up as forced labour, human trafficking, debt bondage, child exploitation, and forced marriage. Poverty, weak enforcement, and opaque global supply chains allow it to thrive. Indonesia’s vast informal economy and migrant workforce make the country a hotspot: an estimated 1.8 million Indonesians—about 7 in every 1,000 people—are trapped in modern slavery today.
